the final movement of Cantata No. 1: An Island Seen and Felt: a spiritual reflection of childhood on the Surf Coast
-
Jonathon Crompton’s forthcoming album Cantata No. 1: An Island Seen and Felt is a meditation on the Australian Surf Coast and a nostalgic yearning for home as a New York expat. This groundbreaking work reflects the saxophonist/composer’s intimate knowledge of Renaissance counterpoint, impressionism and jazz—brought to life with strings, soprano, and guitar improvisation.
Movement 3, recorded in darkness in a single take, conveys a spacious, calm sea - featuring electroacoustic ambient electronics. -
